Entry #1: Sun Valley Idaho

Thursday, June 25:

We woke to the beautiful morning sun, creeping it’s way up the canyon, slowly warming our campsite. We enjoyed the bit of cool air as we loaded up the truck to pre-ride the race course.

This year, the Ride Sun Valley Enduro introduced two back country stages and we were stoked to check them out. The trails were loose and steep and wind through fields of wildflowers, pine forests and charred trees, remnants of a huge wildfire that tore through Sun Valley a few years back.

Friday June 26: Rest Day

We cruised up a short section of trail to make sure our bikes were dialed and then headed to the river to soak our legs and stay cool.

Saturday June 27: Race Day 1:

All of the stages of today’s race were held in the back country. The day was a bit of an epic. We began by climbing up the never ending gravel road to Curley’s trail, the shorter of the two stages. Curley’s was a fast flowy descent with a few short punchy pedaling sections. I stayed on my bike, pedaled hard when necessary, though felt a bit slow on the descents. For the transfer stage, we ascended the same gravel road a second time to Oregon Gulch. This was a longer, steeper, more technical stage with a few climbing sections. I found it to be the more fun stage of the day and opened it up a bit more on the steeps. I finished fourth overall for the day and knew that I had my work cut out for me for day two.

We rested our legs, ate some great local food and focused on hydrating and preparing for Day 2.

Sunday June 28: Race Day 2

On Sunday, all of the stages were at the resort. We began the day with a few lift rides to the peak to Stage 3. Stage 3 was loose with tight, flat switchbacks that came out of nowhere. Stage 4 was pedally and more flowy. Stage 5, the final and longest stage of the day, was super fun and flowy and descended from the top of mountain to the base area. I clipped my handlebars on a tree and went down hard near the start of the Stage. I did not lose too much time in the crash and tried to make it up by pushing hard on all the remaining pedally sections. I came close to catching the girl in front of me and chased her dust tails down the remainder of the course. When I crossed the finish line, I headed straight for the river where I could watch as the rest of Team 2nd Tracks came in.

When the results came in, I was stoked to learn that I had come in 3rd overall for the weekend. Team 2nd Tracks did pretty well for the weekend with Madi McQueen coming in 6th overall and Maxx Cohen coming in 16th overall.

Thanks for all of the support 2nd Tracks!!!!!
